Social Business Edge

90:10 is supporting the Social Business Edge event in New York City on April 19, 2010, as ‘Media Sponsor’.
The event is directed and hosted by 90:10 collaborator Stowe Boyd and produced by Jeff Pulver (the man behind the global 140conf phenomenon).
More ‘late night TV show’ than conference, Stowe aims to “reduce the formalities and... get into some deep discussions without the tired powerpoints.”
Stowe says: “We are seeing a rethinking of work, collaboration, and the role of management in a changing world, where the principles and tools of the web are transforming society, media, and business. The mainstays of business theory — like innovation, competitive advantage, marketing, production, and strategic planning — need to be reconsidered and rebalanced in the context of a changing world. The rise of the real-time, social web has become one of the critical factors in this new century, along with a radically changed global economic climate, an accelerating need for sustainable business practices, and a political context demanding increased openness in business.
“These issues cannot be dealt with one by one, but instead approached as connected elements of a new world order for business.”
For those unable to be in New York this April, Stowe is planning a second event (Show 2) in the autumn in London – which you can be sure 90:10 will be heavily involved with.
More on that event as it develops.

Honda Launches European Search for Cast to Star in Road Movie

Honda Motor Europe is today launching ‘Live Every Litre’, a ground-breaking project which includes the creation of a crowd-sourced film featuring real people’s extraordinary journeys. Directed by award-winning documentary maker, Claudio Von Planta, Honda is launching an on-line search for a cast to star in the film. The documentary will follow participants from across Europe as they embark on the journeys they have always wanted to make – and all behind the wheel of the new CR-Z, Honda’s sporty hybrid car.
The stars of the film will be followed by Claudio and his team with their reactions, emotions and experiences captured on camera and edited into a feature-length film. The documentary will depict the unique stories of a diverse and exciting group of individuals who must campaign for the chance to be involved with this pioneering project.
All potential journeys will be featured on www.liveeverylitre.com where the public can rate the stories they would most like to see included in the film. Claudio will then work with an independent panel of bloggers – invited from across Europe to join the Live Every Litre project team – to choose the cast based on the community’s favourite and most highly rated applications.
To have a chance of taking part in this social media-driven project, hopefuls simply need to log on to the Live Every Litre website where they can outline the type of journey, challenge or drive they wish to make. Once applications have been submitted, potential film stars can promote their journey online via social media channels of their choice and will be able to download widgets from the Live Every Litre website to publicise their journey to friends, family, colleagues and the wider community.
Honda has torn-up the rule book with Live Every Litre, as Laura Price, PR Executive at Honda Motor Europe explains; “Live Every Litre is going to give those who consume media online the chance to do something unique and different. We hope to give people the opportunity to fulfil long held ambitions and experience something they can’t in everyday life. A large portion of this campaign will be ‘crowd sourced’, with participants and the online community moulding the final outcome, and that is what makes it such an exciting project.”
The route and journeys which will become a part of the film will not be decided until all hopefuls have submitted their stories to the project website and the public has had the opportunity to rate their favourites. Applications can be uploaded from today until 15 March 2010. Fans of Live Every Litre will be able to watch the adventures unfold for the duration of the project via the website.
With filming due to take place during May this year, before the CR-Z goes on sale, the final cast will be given unprecedented access to the world’s first 6-speed manual hybrid. The project will provide an opportunity for people across Europe to see, and for the lucky participants to experience, the perception altering coupe.
Successful participants need to be 18 or over and hold a full driving licence. For further details, including full terms and conditions, please visit www.liveeverylitre.com.
The Live Every Litre project has been created by Honda in conjunction with leading communications agency Grey London and co-produced by social business consultancy 90:10 Group, digital agency Fitch Live and word-of-mouth agency Wildfire.

Stowe Boyd joins 90:10

The 90:10 Group is delighted to announce global social tools authority Stowe Boyd as the latest addition to its consulting network: a constellation of stars with unparalleled knowledge and expertise.
Stowe coined the phrase ‘social tools’ in 1999.
He is much sought after for his expertise in those tools and in their impact on media, business, and society. He works as an analyst, advisor, futurist, and researcher.
He is Director of the Social Business Edge show in New York on April 19, 2010.
According to Technobabble Stowe is one of the top 10 analysts blogging today.
He has worked with dozens of start-ups and more established firms such as AOL, Microsoft, The Open University, iMeem, TravelPod, Mozilla, Freshbooks, Bit.ly, Empressr, MOG, The SchoolOfEverything, Bview, Xing, and Jabber.
Stowe says: “I spent about 10 years in the '80s and '90s working in software research and consulting around programming languages and software tools, and then got hooked on collaboration technologies.
“During that time I worked in standards development in programming languages, SQL, and operating systems. I served as an ACM National Lecturer in Programming Methods. I jumped out of the world of software tools after I merged Meridian Software, where I was president, with Verdix in 1992, and then Verdix, where I was SVP of Engineering, with Rational Software in 1994.
“I started tracking collaboration technology in the mid '90s, and as the web started to emerge, I fanned the flames. I have primarily worked as an independent consultant and analyst (a 'software product theorist" as I like to say) since the mid '90s.”
90:10 MD David Cushman said: “I’m very excited that Stowe trusts and believes in what we are doing – particularly as he has been an inspiration to me for many years.
‘“I am made greater by the sum of my connections – and so are my connections,” is Stowe’s mantra – and one I’ve adopted myself.
“No surprise then that connecting with 90:10 makes so much sense for all of us.”
“It’s testimony to what we are building here that Stowe wants to be part of it.”

90:10 thinking: live and in person

90:10 Group’s David Cushman is speaking at a series of events in November and December – revealing how we think social technologies can benefit businesses and organisations.
The first is one anyone can attend – because it’s a live radio broadcast on BlogTalk Radio. David will be a guest on Jon Hansen’s PI Window On Business at 8pm (UK time) on November 10. The show is syndicated to 300,000 listeners.
When David last appeared the show experienced the most activity its live chatrooms have ever seen. It won’t be dull.
He will be presenting two keynotes in person in November and December – the first at SIPA 09 on November 19 – SIPA’s third Online Marketing and Publishing Summit – at the Novotel London Tower Bridge, Pepys Street, London EC3N 2NR.
At SIPA David will reveal how media fragmentation and social technologies are opening the door to a new era for specialist media.
“I will explain how treating specialist content as social objects reveals new revenue models in a world in which no one wants to pay for content and no one clicks on the ads.
And on December 1 David will Keynote on the social media stage at London’s Olympia at Online Information 2009. On this occasion his theme will be ‘Why social media must fail: participating is the winning strategy.’
David is also speaking at London’s Monitoring Social Media 09 on November 17 and providing the closing address at Mash-ups Social Media 09 in London on November 12.
“If we haven’t already, I hope we’ll have a chance to meet at one or more of these events in the coming months,” said David - MD of 90:10 Ltd.

Finding Purpose for Gambling Compliance

We have begun working with Gambling Compliance a global B2B publishing company to realign their business strategically both internally and externally as they look to grow into new markets and develop new products and services. ‘Gambling Compliance is at that interesting stage in a business’s life cycle when it is no longer a start-up. It is important that the passion that took it to its point of success is not lost and it sense-checks it’s future course’ said Jamie Burke CEO.
To do this we have begun a Purpose Workshop headed by David Cushman (MD of 90:10) and Mark Earls (Author of Herd) to help identify the ‘Why’ that will bond both the internal and external communities around their business.

We are proud to announce we are opening offices in Valencia, Berlin, Paris and Milan over the coming months with best of breed in each market. ‘It’s a big step in turning our global network of relationships that we have cultivated over the years into businesses in their own right’ says CEO Jamie Burke. ‘As we increasingly start to work with global businesses it is critical we grow a global footprint that allows us to understand and deliver according to each market's nuances’.
